Fundraising for Hope: The Importance of Events and Sponsors

Charity fundraising events have an impact beyond the actual funds raised. They connect the community by uniting people with a common interest, and create visibility where it matters.

To keep the Wheels For Hope mission going and offer mobility support to WA families, we rely on the generosity of our community to help us:

  • Maintain and service the fleet
  • Purchase insurance
  • Source new vehicles
  • Licence each of our vehicles
  • Install GPS units for tracking

As we do not receive Federal funding, Wheels For Hope raises funds through events, sponsorships, and charitable giving (e.g. donations, bequests). And all for a good cause: Improving the mobility of people living with disability, by providing access to wheelchair accessible vans on a loan basis.

Why doesn’t Wheels For Hope receive Federal funding?

Strange as it may sound, it’s fairly common for small or niche charities to miss out on this kind of funding.

The vast majority of the estimated 60,000 registered charities in Australia do not receive funding from the Australian Government. Wheels For Hope counts itself among the number of smaller charities depending on donations, corporate sponsors and volunteers to keep the wheels spinning.

Typically larger, national charities will receive the majority of funding as they have a bigger overall number of people depending on this service. This doesn’t mean other charities are not ‘worthy’. There’s only so much to go around, so organisations meeting a specific, local need (like Wheels For Hope) must find alternative ways to support their missions.

Our most exciting and visible fundraising initiatives are our Perth charity events, where we get to meet our community and work together to change the lives of WA families.

Upcoming Charity Fundraising Events

The main events Wheels For Hope holds are our Charity Golf Days, the Celebration of the Motorcar, and German Car Day.

Annual Charity Golf Days

A fun day out for a fabulous cause – our Golf Days involve delicious food and drink, 18 rounds on a stunning course, and plenty of opportunities to score prizes. These are hosted alongside community and corporate partners, who kindly help us to pull off brilliant days out year after year. Our next Golf Day is the Holeseekers Charity Golf Day in November.

To keep things fun and fair for everybody, we use the Ambrose golf format. This allows players of mixed skill levels to better enjoy the game together. Our novelty holes also provide entertaining breaks for players, as well as more chances to win spot prizes on the course.

A motorhead must-see: Wheels For Hope's Celebration of the Motorcar

Perth’s Favourite Charity Car Events

As a charity that helps with cars (or vans, more accurately) it’s only right that we pay homage to some gorgeous machinery.

Celebration of the Motorcar is a unique showcase displaying some of the most exclusive and prestige vehicles in Australia, including some that have never been shown in public before. This velvet rope-style event also features live music and stalls for food and drink.

German Car Day is a charity drive (in all senses of the phrase) that starts in Perth city before the fleet cruises out to a mystery location, which changes each year. Anyone with a German car is welcome to participate, and there are prizes and photos on the day.

Getting Involved: What You Can Do

Charitable giving for individuals

Doing things for the benefit of others, makes us feel good about ourselves. It feels good to do good! If you want to capture that charitable giving high, here are some ways you can aid our mobility mission as an individual:

  1. Donations – these can be one-off donations, or you can set up monthly recurring payments. You can customise the amount you give (we appreciate any and all donations), but remember it only counts as tax deductible if it is over $2.
  2. Using commission products like Shopnate and the Entertainment, where we receive a small percentage of certain transactions at no extra cost to you. Shopnate allows you to shop at large Australian and international retailers online as usual, while Entertainment is a subscription-based service for cheaper tickets, meals, or events.
  3. Participating in our events, or volunteering to help them run smoothly.

Charitable giving for businesses & corporates

  1. Become a corporate supporter – Donating a percentage of sales, or organising payroll giving.
  2. Sponsor a vehicle – By sponsoring one of our wheelchair-accessible vehicles, you will also get to put your signage on it as sponsor advertisement.
  3. Donating goods or services to keep our vans on the road, or donating prizes for events.

If you are looking to help us run an event, or want to find out more about how you can donate goods or services, contact us today.
